What is CPAP Headgear?

CPAP headgear is a machine designed to make sure that certain categories of patients receive enough oxygen. A CPAP headgear contains some type of breathing mask that attaches to the face with straps and is connected to a “continuous positive airway pressure” (CPAP) machine.

CPAP headgear is used in hospitals, when doctors need to make sure that a patient is getting enough oxygen. In the last decades, however, CPAP headgears started to be used at home, by patients suffering from sleep apnea.

Sleep apnea is a condition where the patient, during his sleep, stops breathing for different periods of times, from a few seconds to a minute or even more. This condition is related especially to weight problems, diabetes, allergies, deviated septum and smoking, but even people who don’t enter those categories might suffer from this disorder.

It might seem like sleep apnea is not a very big problem. Persons who suffer from that condition don’t have any respiratory problems during the day, but, during the night, they may have as much as 30 sleep apnea episodes per hour. Even if they don’t wake up every time they experience sleep apnea, they will wake up in the morning extremely tired. In time, sleep apnea seriously affects the heart. Also, you’ll be tired all the time, and that’s a serious risk for injuries at work or while driving.

CPAP headgear is the most effective and safe way to stop sleep apnea from affecting your life- it ensures that your airways remain open throughout the night so that you do not experience periods of apnea. You’ll feel an immediate effect – patients who use CPAP headgears feel a boost of energy after the first night with the headgear on. They wake up rested and the quality of their lives improves a lot.

So, if in the past you passed out the CPAP headgear, maybe it’s time to give it a chance. Most patient are uncomfortable with the way the CPAP headgear looks, with the fact they have to wear a mask the entire night and they worry the noise of the CPAP headgear might disturb the partner.

In fact, the benefits are much more important then these few problems. In the last few years, the CPAP headgears have become more and more user friendly. The breathing mask is comfortable and easy to put on; the CPAP is smaller and doesn’t make so much noise. Anyway, if you worry about your partner, you should know that the noisiest CPAP machine on the market couldn’t compare with the snoring of a person suffering from sleep apnea.

Put that in balance with the benefits: no more sleep apnea during the nights, no more pressure on your heart, no more snoring an waking up in the morning rested and full with energy. From that perspective, wearing CPAP headgear seems like a very small inconvenient.
